HEWC6602R - Ink Jet Toner Cartridge for HP (C6602A compat) Generic Red

Ink Jet Toner Cartridge for HP (C6602A compat) Generic Red

Sony's XEL-1 is the world's first OLED TV. OLEDs are made from organic materials, and can be used to make bright, thin and efficient displays. OLED materials emit light when electrical current is applied, and do not require a backlight or a filter system like the one used in LCDs. Up until today OLEDs were used only for small displays such as the ones used in MP3 players or mobile phones.

So first of all, the XEL-1 is a small television indeed. 11-inch in fact. It is just 3mm thin (now that is really thin!), and has 960x540 resolution. The contrast ratio is an amazing 1,000,000:1. The OLED TV also includes a terrestrial digital tuner, speakers, HDMI, USB and Ethernet jacks. It weights 2kg.

The picture quality on the XEL-1 is awesome. The reviews are raving - the colors are crisp, the refresh rate is fast, and the contrast is amazing. Indeed the blacks are really blacks - unlike the 'gray' we are used to see on LCDs. The picture on an OLED TV simply looks good!

The XEL-1 is very pricey. When it was first introduced in Japan it went for around 2,000$. The US version is priced at 2,500$. In the beginning of 2009 Sony started to distribute the TV in Europe as well, for around 5,000$. Sony do not expect their OLED TV to be sold in large numbers (in fact they are only making around a thousand in a month). This is more of an available prototype and technology demonstration. In fact it is said that Sony started to sell this TV just to show that they are still innovative (after being late to the LCD/PDP game).

Sony are already working on newer versions of the TV. They plan to launch a larger version at 27" (XEL-2?), and are also making it thinner, too. Their latest screens prototypes are less than a millimeter thick. OLEDs can also be made flexible, and Sony say they will work on such screens - foldable book readers might be a hit in a few years.

Other companies are also working on similar devices - Samsung has shown several OLED TV prototypes, including a HD 42" set and LG can already make 15" OLED screens. Panasonic, Toshiba and CMEL have active OLED TV research program. Sony sure made a big bet when they announced the XEL-1, and so far they are seen as OLED leaders.

Ron Mertens has been following OLEDs since 1998, and is the editor of OLED-Info, the web's leading OLED display information web site. OLEDs are starting to take off, with Sony introducing the world's first OLED TV at the end of 2007.

HP CB277AN#140 78 Plus Tri-Color Inkjet Print Cartridge with Vivera Inks

Want to produce your own fade-resistant, professional-quality snapshots in the comfort of your own home? Equipped with HP's Vivera inks, the 78 Plus Tri-Color cartridge delivers vibrant prints that will last as long as your memories. Make your photos last 50 years longer compared with those printed using the standard HP 78 cartridge.
Customer Review: Color quality varies with different cartridges
Have had to throw away two cartridges out of six because the color was so bad. When the color is right it's great but this can get expensive. I just bought two more and will update my comments when I open the next one.
Customer Review: Vibrant ink... BUT I'd avoid it unless you can profile your printer
I thought I'd try to get better prints from my five-year-old, dirt-cheap Deskjet 952C. HP offered a Vivera ink cartridge that fit my 952C, the 78 Plus, and I thought to give it a whirl. Pretty colors... but sadly they didn't match the actual colors on my home planet. The answer? I found a service that creates ICM/ICC printer profiles. There are are several around on the Web that ask you to download and print a page or two of calibration information with the Vivera ink and whatever brand of paper you want to use. You then mail the printed-out calibration target to the profiling service. They scan it into a computer, run a profiling program, and generate a 2 MB profile. You then tell your photo printing software (I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop CS3, but many, many printing apps are ICC/ICM-profile aware) to use the profiles... and it's like night and day. The best $40 I've spent in quite some time, and now I can turn out reasonably decent photo prints on my humble little three-ink printer. Why four stars? I'm a bit miffed at HP. There is no good reason why they couldn't have a bunch of ICC/ICM profiles already built on their Web site. The HP Web site clearly says that the 78 Plus cartridge works great with the 952C... but it doesn't, at least not without an ICC/ICM profile.

There are several types of cartridges sold by third-party vendors, and each has its benefits and drawbacks. Here's an overview of the types of cartridges sold by third-party providers.

Original manufacturer's cartridges. These are cartridges that come directly from the manufacturer. They are often covered by the manufacturer's warranty, even if you buy them from a third party. You can sometimes find them online for less than they would cost in a traditional store, but they are still the most expensive option.

Compatible cartridges. Third-party compatible or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)-compatible cartridges are made by a third party company using the original manufacturer's specifications.

Compatible products typically have a better performance record than remanufactured, because compatible cartridges are made new and not recycled. They can cost 30% to 50% less than the original brand.

Remanufactured cartridges. With remanufactured or refilled cartridges, a third-party company collects used cartridges, replaces damaged or worn components, and refills the cartridges with third-party ink. If you buy a remanufactured cartridge, you'll get an original cartridge containing third-party ink.

Home refill kits. If you order a home refill kit, you'll receive one or more bottles of ink, syringes or needles, and a cartridge holder. Refill kits for some brands include additional tools as well.

Many refilled, remanufactured and third-party compatible cartridges are safe to use and much cheaper than original cartridges-and millions of businesses and home printer users buy them every day. Choose a reputable vendor with a strong guarantee and a rigorous testing process, and you're sure to find a dependable source for discount printer cartridges.

It sounds complicated - surely if you want to refill laser cartridges it takes special knowledge or skills? Well despite the best efforts of printer manufacturers - no it doesn't. You don't have to mess around with drums, blades or anything - this is in fact the beauty of refilling a toner cartridge - you don't have to mess around with any of the internal workings of the cartridge at all.

Lets get this straight - there is absolutely no reason why you can't refill the toner cartridge on the majority of laser printers. The fact is that all the components on the standard laser cartridge are fine for many more prints than you use them - until the printer manufacturers can figure out a way for them to fail quicker that is! It's all just a commercial decision by the manufacturers - do they want you to refill laser cartridges with ink or buy a brand new one from them? If the toner cartridge is replaced with ink then it's fine to carry on working and printing. I generally refill my toner cartridges about 3 or 4 times before buying a new laser cartridge. I've heard of people who go well into double figures and carry on refilling their cartridges from big bottles of toner ink.

How often you refill the cartridge is dependent on the quality you require and the laser printer? Obviously the other components in the laser cartridge can't be refilled so they will eventually fail - when that happens you can buy a new laser printer cartridges and refill that with your spare toner when it runs out. The process is extremely easy and varies only slightly on most printers - if you have instructions it takes only about 10 minutes per cartridge maximum.

You should be able to cut your printing costs to around 30% - some people save up to 87% on theirs. The potential savings to small business, schools and individuals can be significant - the added benefit that this is by far the most eco-friendly way of printing. Every time you refill laser cartridges you are saving not only the expense but the 2 liters of oil required to produce a new one - not to mention the landfill if they are thrown away. Check it out - it really is very simple - if you use a reputable supplier - you'll get full information, top quality replacement toner ink and support if you require it. Refill laser cartridges and save yourself a fortune.

Youll find that many of todays printers, which utilize USB, will let you print from a Mac, you have to be sure drivers are included with the printer which were written specifically for a Mac.

Mac Printer Reviews

Hewlett Packard PSC 2410 Photosmart

Ive included an all-in-one that will work with either the Mac or a PC. Its a higher end model, and costs accordingly at around $300. Youll get laser quality text and very high quality color. I prefer a flatbed for scanning, which it has. Another nice touch is you can fax in color. That wont do you any good though if youre faxing to a B & W fax machine. This is a nice home-office solution for most any Mac user.

Epson Photo R800

This puppy can whip out a high quality 5 x 7 photo in about 45 seconds. For the speed freak, youll also get USB 2.0 and FireWire . True borderless printing at up to 8 x 10. Like some of the other Epson printers, it adds the ability to print to a CD/DVD. The 8 color ink method will give you some very vivid, high quality prints that it claims will last 100 years. None of the photos it has printed are that old yet, so who knows? Youll pay for all these snazzy features though, between $325 and $400. I confess though, a lot of Mac users do photo work, and Id lean towards this printer if that were my situation.

Lexmark Z816

Heres a printer you can pickup for your Mac that is less then $100. It works with OS X, like most others. It has pretty good speed and quality. They tout the Accu-Feed assembly virtually eliminates paper jams, which are normally pretty frequent with this type of paper feed setup. Ive never been fond of this type of setup though, but if youre budget minded and just need to print occasional letters and photos for the family, itll do.
